Monthly Breakdown for Burnout Recovery, Indoorsy People, and Quiet Place Seekers

Vientiane doesn’t give you a checklist of things to do — and that might be the point. It’s not flashy, not overly touristy, and honestly? That made it perfect for slowing down. If you’re looking to hibernate, recharge, or just pause from moving too much — this is your place.

💰 Expenses Breakdown

🛏️ Accommodation: SGD1,200
→ I stayed right next to a mall and zero regrets. It gave me food, a supermarket, and something to wander through on lazy days.
🍽️ Food: ~SGD45/day
→ Surprisingly, I ate more international food here — cafes, bar food, and a bit of western comfort when I needed it.
→ Shoutout to Cafe Ango for being my little recharge spot.
🚇 Transport: SGD150
→ Other than the airport transfer, I only cabbed out to visit the night markets. Everything else? Skipped.
💄 Grooming: SGD150
→ Coffee runs, small groceries, and just…existing.

Total: ~SGD2,895 (excluding activities)

📌 A minimalist month. Mentally necessary. Zero FOMO.

🏡 Where to Stay in Vientiane

✔️ Near a mall — If you’re not planning to explore heavily, staying close to food and essentials makes life easier.

Vientiane doesn’t have a dense downtown, so proximity matters more than you’d think.

🏠 Airbnb, Hotel, or Something Else?

✅ Hotels near major malls = safe, convenient, and quiet.
✅ Airbnb can work too — just double-check proximity to food.

📌 I booked near a mall on instinct — and I’m glad I did. There’s not a whole lot to do, so being close to food, supermarkets, and a space to walk around gave the stay just enough rhythm. Don’t underestimate how quiet Vientiane gets after dark — convenience > novelty here.

🍽️ Food and Dining in Vientiane (SGD45/day)

✔️ Cafe Ango — One of my go-tos. Chill, comforting, and has a bit of everything.
✔️ Other options were mostly international cafes and bars — which felt more active than local food streets here.

📌 The food scene is subtle — not mind-blowing, but reliable when you’re just trying to rest.

🚕 Transport Costs (SGD150 for the Month)

✔️ Grab equivalents aren’t as common, so plan for basic cabs.
✔️ I walked where I could and kept most trips short.

📌 If you’re not planning excursions, your transport cost will stay low.

📶 Internet and Workspaces (SGD25)

✔️ Stable enough for daily use — I streamed and worked without issues.

📌 Not the fastest city for uploads, but more than enough for casual work and browsing.

🎟️ Where I Spent My Time in Vientiane

✔️ Patuxay Monument — Pretty from the outside, worth a short visit.
✔️ Vientiane Night Market — Great for an evening stroll and local snacks. Not wild, but cozy.

📌 Overall: not much to do, and that’s kind of the charm.

🌟 Final Thoughts: Was SGD2,895 Worth It?

Worth-it meter:

✔️ If you’re looking to recharge? 100%.
✔️ It’s not for adrenaline junkies or culture-packed itineraries — but for me, this was a necessary reset.
✔️ A no-pressure city where you can just… be.
