Monthly Breakdown for Beach Walkers, Market Browsers, and Privacy Converts
Sydney is stunning — from the chill of Bondi Beach mornings to The Rocks Market on weekends, there’s something for everyone. But would I return soon? Not likely. The rent is too high for what you get, and sharing a space reminded me that I really, really value privacy.
💰 Expenses Breakdown
🛏️ Accommodation: SGD2,500
→ Stayed in a shared apartment at Bondi Beach. The beach was worth it — the shared living? Not so much.
→ I’ve now fully accepted that I’m a private-space person.
🍽️ Food: ~SGD70/day
→ Between the Sydney Fish Market, Messina gelato, and food stalls at The Rocks Market, I ate very well.
🚇 Transport: SGD250
→ One of the best public transport systems I’ve used.
→ You can tap your credit card directly, and the system auto-caps weekly, so no need to plan around passes.
💄 Grooming: SGD250
→ Market buys, random snacks, and the occasional splurge along QVB.
Total: ~SGD5,170 (excluding activities)
📌 It’s a high-cost city, but it flows well — until you remember the rent.
🏡 Where to Stay in Sydney
✔️ Bondi Beach — Relaxed, scenic, and has a local feel.
✔️ Queen Victoria Building area — Central, historic, and surrounded by shopping.
✔️ Sydney Opera House district — Good for walking, views, and waterfront buzz.
🏠 Airbnb, Hotel, or Something Else?
✅ If you’re like me and need alone time, don’t skimp on getting a private unit.
✅ Sydney’s prices are steep, but your sanity is worth it.
📌 I stayed in a shared apartment at Bondi — never again. Beautiful beach, but the lack of privacy wore me down fast. Sydney isn’t cheap, but paying more for your own space is 100% worth it, especially if you’re in it for the long haul (or just like breathing in peace).
🍽️ Food and Dining in Sydney (SGD70/day)
✔️ Sydney Fish Market — Fresh seafood, endless options.
✔️ Messina Gelato — A must. The flavours are on another level.
✔️ The Rocks Market — A mix of food, crafts, and weekend energy.
📌 It’s not the cheapest city to eat in, but the quality’s consistently high.
🚕 Transport Costs (SGD250 for the Month)
✔️ Just tap your card — no apps, no passes, no planning.
✔️ Weekly fare cap = big budget win.
📌 It’s efficient, easy, and tourist-proof.
📶 Internet and Workspaces (SGD25)
✔️ Fast and reliable.
📌 No connectivity issues during my stay — great for remote work.
🎟️ Where I Spent My Time in Sydney
✔️ Bondi Beach — For sun, surf, and long walks.
✔️ Queen Victoria Building — Gorgeous heritage architecture and shopping.
✔️ The Rocks Market — Great on weekends. Come hungry.
✔️ Opera House at Night — Peaceful… unless you get attacked by seagulls. (It happened.)
🌟 Final Thoughts: Was SGD5,170 Worth It?
✔️ Yes — but not for frequent returns.
✔️ The city flows beautifully, but the rent just doesn’t make sense unless you’re splitting or long-term.
✔️ I loved the food, the markets, the ocean — but I’ll wait before doing it again.
🙋♀️ Who This City is For
- Beachside brunchers and city walkers
- Travellers who value walkability and convenience
- People who aren’t shocked by rental sticker prices
