Some brands are everywhere. But everywhere doesn’t mean the same.

After travelling across 30+ countries, here’s what I’ve learnt about Uniqlo, Muji, Decathlon, and Don Don Donki: just because they exist in your country… doesn’t mean they carry what you’re looking for. Or at the same price.

🧦 Uniqlo: My Toes Know the Truth

Uniqlo tends to be more affordable in Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

But let me tell you: there’s a specific pair of toe socks I’ve only ever found in Vietnam.

Tried hunting them down in other countries — no luck.
Toes cold. Regret strong.

And yes, I procrastinated for months before buying a skirt I’d been eyeing in Thailand at 1,290baht (priced ~SGD51).

Found it in Kaohsiung, Taiwan on clearance at just NTD390 (~SGD16).
Did I buy it? Obviously.

👗 Muji: Slippers, Sales, and Sticker Shock

Muji tends to go on sale in Taiwan and Thailand — sometimes even in Abu Dhabi.

That said, prices in the Middle East are often marked up due to franchise brokers.

I once found in-room travel slippers in Malaysia I’ve never seen again.
Softest regret ever.

🎣 Decathlon: Gear, Not Guaranteed

Fishing gear galore in one country.
Barely any outdoor gear in another.

Decathlon changes its product mix per location — which means if you spot something, grab it.

It might never appear again.

🍙 Don Don Donki: Price Surprise

Generally more affordable in Japan and Taiwan — even for snacks and cosmetics.

Singapore and some other countries? Marked up hard.

Same wasabi peas. Different financial pain.

🌟 Final Thoughts

So here’s what I learnt: if you like something, buy it.

Global brands don’t guarantee global consistency.

Unless you’re 100% sure you’re returning to that country soon… treat yourself.
I do.
